Nantucket in early September is probably the best time to get lost here and unwind. If you’re from a busy city or need to get away from the stress of the office Nantucket is the best. Technically early September is off season but many of the places are still open, flights and accommodations are also cheaper. Nantucket is a quiet and peaceful get away with fresh air and even friendlier faces. Early on during my trip I was told Millies in Madaket was the place to try food. They can also be found operating a cart at the local Cisco Brewery on Thursday. (also a winery and distillery) I made the trip to the brewery to try these tacos (tasted pre-drinking for optimum taste results)
They offered two varieties, a blackened Mahi-mahi fish taco (which sold out after I ordered) and a carnitas taco. The restaurant they operate in Madekat offers several other varieties (open till October 7th). I was told by the owner of the inn I stayed at to also try their street corn. Cape Cod and her Islands (Nantucket & Martha’s Vineyard) are known for fantastic sea food. I was not disappointed by these Californian-Baja tacos and the street corn was phenomenal.

The flavor on these tacos pair very well together with the just the right amount of heat, nothing seemed out of place. Each one is served with their house made pineapple mango salsa, a scoop of guacamole, a small amount of diced red onion and fresh cilantro. The sauce alone ranks very high for me it really is the perfect balance of heat and flavor.

The carnitas taco is served on a flour tortilla that has been heated up on the stove to get a few crisp brown spots. The carnitas were cooked just right, the meat was soft and dripping with sauce (not dry!)

Currently on my list for the best fish taco I’ve had is this Millies taco. As mentioned Cape Cod has some of the best seafood available (caught daily, and yes I know Mahi-mahi isn’t local there) as a kid on the Cape I avoided fish, but it’s pretty much all I eat there now. The blackened Mahi-mahi was fantastic and served on two corn tortillas with the same salsa (not pictured). The only thing missing on this taco was a freshly made tortilla but I didn’t miss it to much.

The street corn was also fantastic roasted just right with their own blended crema topped with fresh cotija cheese. Grab plenty of napkins it gets messy.
