Easy Serrano Pepper Hot Sauce Recipe for Tacos

This is a really really easy hot sauce recipe with really simple ingredients, it has some heat but plenty of flavor. A serrano pepper is slightly hotter than a jalapeño, so I would describe the sauce as medium in heat, so this shouldn’t be crazy hot. You’ll need a blender, a grill or gas stove and a good pan. this sauce is mainly used for taco seasonings, you can also use it for chips, but the base of this is mainly tomato which suits it well for many different tacos and Mexican dishes.

Heres what you need to make your own sauce/hot sauce

  • 1 roma tomato
  • 2 red serranos peppers
  • 1 clove of raw garlic
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

  1. Grab your Roma tomato and serrano peppers place them over an open fire on medium low, listen for the small popping sounds as the skins blister, using tongues rotate them until they are blistered on all sides.
  2. Take the peppers and just cut the stems off, your’e going to throw them into the blender with the seeds intact along with the whole tomato.
  3. Add the raw clove of garlic along with the other ingredients and blend.
  4. Empty the blender into a pan, cover and let the sauce simmer for ten minutes on medium-low, stir occasionally, and the sauce should start to thicken.
  5. Unlike most hot sauces – this one should be refrigerated, depending on how you bottle this it should have a shelf life of around 6-12 months.
