Chips and Guacamole

Let’s start the review with “damn that’s some good gauc!” The guacamole and chips at Luna y Sol in Moorestown, New Jersey are an easy 9/10 hell maybe 10/10. Check out the fresh pico de gallo on top of the guacamole, it really makes it and the corn chips are perfectly cooked, not oily just a good crunch with a good amount of salt. Also this Mexican restaurant is B.Y.OB so everyone bring a cooler… and yeah you can do just that.

Tinga de pollo tacos

I started my order here with three different tacos, one barbacoa, an al pastor and one chicken tinga. (shredded chicken with chipotle)

Each taco is served on a no frills flour tortilla and is topped with shredded lettuce, queso fresco, crema, onion, and diced tomatoes. First up was the barbacoa, upon my first bite I came up with about three pieces of hard fat in my mouth. Needless to say this didn’t start well for me and I was a little jaded. I finished the barbacoa, I was left with little seasoning on it and a funny aftertaste, the meat itself was actually tender.

Next I picked up the chicken tinga, which I’m always a fan of at Acapulco Plaza. (tinga de pollo tostada) anyway good amount of meat here, filling but again there wasn’t a lot of heat here.

Sauces at Luna Y Sol

Luna y Sol offered 3 sauces a red, an orange and a green, they all lacked true heat with the flavor of the red and orange being indistinguishable. The green was very good, freshly made with cilantro and spices.

The al pastor had a much more complex flavor, but it sadly fell apart with the quality of the meat. I think the meat for the al pastor was of lower quality and was chewy.

Overall despite my review I think this place is probably a good Mexican spot but don’t expect it to be authentic by any means. Tacos aren’t their strong point, their service was friendly and I would be open to trying other items here from the menu.
